digital multimeter

A multimeter is an electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit. A typical multimeter may include features such as the ability to measure voltage, current and resistance. A multimeter may either be an analog multimeter or a digital multimeter. Digital multimeters are generally more accurate in their measurements.

Digital multimeters are also more durable and have additional features. A digital multimeter is the best choice for a first multimeter. Precautions should be taken in the use of multimeters as they can easily be damaged by careless use.

~Always disconnect the multimeter before adjusting the range switch.
~Always check the setting of the range switch before you connect to a circuit.
~Never leave a multimeter set to a current range (except when actually taking a reading). The greatest risk of damage is on the current ranges because the meter has a low resistance.
