silk plants

My grandmother lived in a big house with a big garden. She cooked very well and had a green thumb. Today, I have a family of my own and we live in a small two bedroom condominium unit. Instead of a garden we have a tiny space for plants in our balcony. Most of my neighbors have real plants in their planter boxes. When we moved in the previous tenant had silk plants in the planter boxes.

Silk plants are a wonderful alternative to real plants if you’re not that into plants. Not everyone has the patience or the talent to take care of plants. Our silk plants look just as good as real plants. They do the job, they give us enough privacy. Silk plants may be a bit expensive but it will not take much to take care of them.

lingerie chest

Studio apartments are notoriously tiny. When you look at model units, they seem to get smaller and smaller. The closets keep shrinking and this is not so practical for women who tend to collect clothes and shoes. An alternative would be to have a lingerie chest to keep your lingerie, shirts, pajamas and other clothing you can fold. You can save the closet space for formal dresses and shoes which you can place on shoe hanger organizers.

A lingerie chest is practical it can keep a lot of clothes aside from lingerie. They are not usually high so you can use the top of the chest to store linens, photos and even a clock. Chests come in different styles. There are those are made of modern heavy wood. My favorites are vintage lingerie chests which can be repainted.

abstract art

It may take a higher learning curve or an entirely different kind of art appreciation for people to value the kind of art that looks incomprehensible to most. A century or more ago, many people would say that artists who make abstract art possess mediocre skills or none at all. It is only in later generations that many people started to appreciate the beauty in these kinds of painting. In fact, some of the most expensive art works to date are done in abstract form.

Pablo Picasso, the popular abstract painter became popular with his out-of-the-ordinary expression of images such as those of people and animals. Among his masterpieces were disfigured faces and incomplete forms of images. Today, we can find various abstract paintings all over the world in different places such as lobbies of popular hotels and buildings.

seasonal decor

Bring in a breath of fresh air into your home at every change of the season. Regularly rotate the seasonal decor of your home without spending a great deal of time or money. This is a good project that you can work on over the course of several years. Whether you are decorating for spring, summer, fall, or winter, remember to take your cues from the outside world.

Match the colors inside your home with what you see outdoors. If you find it too difficult to change all areas of the house every season, focus on a few rooms such as the dining room, living room, bathroom or kitchen which visitors often see. Keep in mind that even if you just make a few changes, those will already make a big difference in how your home interior looks.

Aromatherapy candles

We can create the mood we want in a certain room with so many things. We can put some flowers and plants to create a nature mood or we can play some soothing music to create a romantic one. Aromatherapy candles also play a vital role in transforming a rather plain and boring room to a very cozy and romantic place. These are perfect décor for your home to complete its very warm ambiance.

Aromatherapy candles are scented especially when lit. They could calm the spirits and enhance the senses. They can be made from palm, beeswax or soy. They come in many different sizes, colors, scents and designs. Some of them even have pressed fresh flowers for additional aesthetic effect.

grandfather cuckoo clocks

Like grandfather clocks, cuckoo clocks have similar beginnings. Large selections of cuckoo clocks are still manufactured in Black Forest, Germany. Older versions of the cuckoo clock have a similar mechanism as the grandfather clock, namely the weight driven mechanism. Modern versions, however, have sold out to the practicality of battery operation. They have however retained the look, even the very common decorated chalet style.

Even if I still have to see one, grandfather cuckoo clocks is a possibility. You can only imagine a tall narrow cabinet with a pendulum set up. In combination with a cuckoo clock it will have the face of a clock coupled with a cuckoo bird chirping out the time every hour. Is that possible? As I said, I have not seen one, but in this modern age, nothing is impossible.

kids step stool

My idea of the step stool is one that is made of wood, probably varnished or painted. A kids step stool will most probably be painted in bright colors and decorated with kiddie stuff. It can even be personalized with the child’s name in brilliant colors. You can still find some of the traditional stuff in flea markets. Wooden step stools never die… you just repaint them and they live on.

Modern stools are a lot different now. Consistent with modernization, manufacturers have found multiple uses for the step stool. You will find one that doubles as a storage bin. There are contraptions that can be rearranged to turn from a stool to a chair. They are not just made of wood; you will also find them in plastic and metal. They are not even just for kids anymore; adults have great uses for them, too.

Expressionism art

There are many forms of art. Expressionism art is just one form. It typically presents subjects under a totally subjective perspective, sometimes violently distorting them to make a more vivid emotional effect. This form originated in Germany in the 20th century and has been applied in poetry as well as painting. It even found its way in theater and architecture.

Expressionism art is characterized by intense emotion. It is not surprising that this art form comes to the fore in times of upheaval. Disaster, chaos and oppression are favorite subject matters of expressionist artists. Their objective, after all is to express themselves and they love to do this in complex psychic ways. Because of this not everybody is a fan of expressionist paintings and other art forms.
