My son who goes to college called last month and asked if he can bring home someone for the 4th of July weekend. It turned out his friend is an exchange student from the Philippines and would have ended up spending several days in the school dormitory by himself. I said it’s okay to invite his friend and that he would be very welcome in our home.
I was charmed to see that the young man turned out to have been raised well. He was very respectful and he even brought along his own Cal King bed in a bag bedding set. He said he didn’t want to be a bother. It’s such a refreshing change to meet one of my son’s friends whom I would enjoy having again in our home for future holidays.

You will usually see them over bar counters. They have been replicated a hundred times over in home kitchen counters. They are chosen for the color that they add to the stark nude colors of modern homes. These are tiffany hanging pendant lights. They have evolved from the traditional stained glass designs of yesteryears to more modern approaches in design. Such is this hanging lampshade that just shows a hint of a bundle of grapes on the bottom edge of the shade.
Using tiffany hanging pendant light is one trick up the sleeves of decorators of home and public spaces. For big spaces they can be hung in rows to fill up the space. All the lamps can be fully lighted when required but only a few can be turned on if dim lighting is preferred. Another way of decorating with a hanging lamp is to put one huge pendant lamp in the center and augment it with diffused lighting on the sides. It is really just a matter of creative arrangement of traditional hanging lights.

The human sense of smell can trigger immediate responses to certain aromas. Some smells, particularly, can produce essential chemicals in the brain which cause feelings of relaxation, contentment, and happiness. Certain incense aromas even help relieve pain and discomfort in people suffering from headaches and stuffy noses.
Many people use a glass incense burner when they want to relax or meditate. Some studies even report that certain incense fragrances can reduce anxiety and depression symptoms and may be considered as alternatives to anti-depression drugs. Some individuals also find that burning incense helps induce sleep and is a good natural treatment for insomnia.

The wall is the part of the home that will require a lot of planning in terms of decorating ideas. This is because walls are big spaces that can be very unattractive if left blank. The obvious first step in decorating a wall is to choose an appropriate color. The rule of thumb is to use light and pastel shades for small areas to make it look more spacious. Modern homes use bold and non-traditional colors to provide a unique focus in a room. Painting one side a brilliant orange, for example, is by itself a decorating ploy.
Paintings are common choices in wall decor for home. Some will have nothing less than original paintings by renowned artists; others will be glad to have a framed print of a beautiful landscape. Wall decors need not be expensive. The important thing is that they are tasteful and blend with the rest of the home décor. Don’t be in a rush to find the perfect piece for your living room. It is better to have a blank wall for a while than have an ugly painting hanging on the wall.

Designs for lighting fixtures have come and gone. When Edison invented lighting, he surely did not realize the variety of designs that his light will result in. We have come a long way from simple bulbs that stuck out of ceilings. Now, we have diffusers that come in a variety of forms. Some are smoky white, others are in full color.
And yet, over all these years, tiffany style lighting has remained. The heavy shade with intricate patterns separated by black lines has been admired and used for decades. Depending on the base used it can be casual or elegant. A tiffany shade on a wooden stand spells warmth. One that hangs from intricate metal work is a thing of elegance.

There is a saying that goes like this: There’s no place like home. This statement is true. There’s nothing like your own home to make you feel secure and relaxed. When you have had a rough day at work, you always want to immediately go home to clear your mind off the stressful things you have encountered in the work place.
The home is a like a refuge. It is a source of protection from the outside world. But what you should know is even if you are protected from the elements like rain inside the house, you may not be shielded by the UV rays that enter through your windows. Have solar screens installed. These block the harmful UV rays from entering your home, making your place of refuge cool and more comfortable.

Egyptian cotton is well known for the exceptional comfort it brings to fabrics. Aside from Egyptian cotton bedding, we have also bought Egyptian cotton towels for everyone in the family. These towels have a luxurious feel that gets better with age. They are so nice to use as they are highly absorbent and feel soft to the skin.
Egyptian cotton towels come in many sizes. We got the biggest bath towels we could find. I especially love wrapping one around my body after a long soak in the hot tub or a refreshing shower. I’ve never found other towels yet that could match the lushness and durability of Egyptian cotton towels.
