Cast iron skillets

One of the best materials for making cookware is cast iron because of its excellent heat retention and diffusion properties. It can also be produced and formed with a relatively low level of technology. Cast iron skillets, dutch ovens, deep fryers, griddles, frying pans, etc. are seasoned to protect bare cast iron from developing rust and to make the surface non-stick.

Seasoning involves a three-step process that involves:~Cleaning the cookware to expose the bare metal~Applying a layer of animal fat or vegetable, and~Heating the cookware to bond the fat to the metal
