Weatherstripping

It is usually applied in doors and windows of homes and cars. Weatherstripping is the process of sealing openings from the elements. The goal of weatherstripping is to prevent rain and water from entering by either blocking it outright or by blocking most of it and returning or rerouting it. A secondary goal of weatherstripping is to keep interior air in, thus saving energy with heating and air conditioning. Weatherstripping can be done by almost anybody but some jobs require the services of professional weather strippers.

Below are different weatherstripping materials that will apply to different situations.~Pressure-sensitive adhesive-backed foam – made of rubber or plastic, is inexpensive but not permanent ~Spring-metal strips – are available in bronze, copper, stainless-steel, and aluminum ~Self-sticking spring metal in materials – same as above but with self stick backing ~Felt – is very convenient as it comes in various widths and thickness ~Serrated metal – felt combined with metal ~Tubular gasket weatherstripping – is made from extremely flexible vinyl ~Foam-filled tubular gasket weatherstripping – tubular gasket with a foam core
