blown glass vase
The process of glass blowing may look difficult but the procedure itself if simple. A mixture of powdered limestone, sand and ash is shoveled into a hot, 2300 degree furnace and allowed to cook overnight. The components are added a bit at a time to allow the ingredients to melt and form liquid glass. The molten glass is gathered at one end of a blowpipe. It is then rolled on a steel table to give it shape. The glass blower will now blow on the pipe to expand the glass. It can be formed into a blown glass vase or whatever design the glass blower decides upon.
The art in blowing glass hinges a lot on the skill of the glass blower. Professional glass blowers have the talent to make beautiful pieces of art. They know the trick of adding just the right color to the liquid glass. They can use a mold to come up with a special shape. When molds are not available they just take care of shaping it as they blow.
